Abelardo Morell gave an entertaining and insightful talk about his evolution as a photographer who moved from taking pictures on the street to inside his home. Morell is well-known for converting rooms in homes and hotels into camera obscuras, making exposures as long as eight hours. The upside-down outside world is layered magically onto the dim interior rooms, playing with the boundaries of interior and exterior. Working in this fashion, Morell emphasizes the passage of time in image-making and pushes the boundaries of perception. He also signed books after the talk. There are copies of his books signed for sale at PPAC.
