Artist Lecture: 7:00pm – 8:00pm
The Philadelphia Photo Arts Center is very pleased to host a free lecture with visiting artist Julie Weitz. Weitz combines painting, drawing, and collage to address the complex and entangled ways in which we picture others and ourselves. She draws inspiration from gathering and sorting through photographs. Weitz’s work is in PPAC’s current exhibition Wall Space. Weitz received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Texas in 2001, and an MFA from the University of Wisconsin in 2004. She is a 2010 recipient of the West Prize awarded by the West Collection. She has been included in exhibitions at Thomas Robertello Gallery in Chicago, Patricia Sweetow Gallery in San Francisco, and Schroeder Romero in New York. Her work has been featured on the cover of New American Painting and has been reviewed in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Artweek, and Creative Loafing. Weitz was recently a Visiting Lecturer at UCLA. She lives and works in Tampa, Florida.
