71st Annual Juried Exhibition
July 28, 2012 – September 30, 2012
Woodmere Art Museum’s 71st Annual Juried Exhibition will be on view from July 28 through September 30, 2012. The exhibition will feature a variety of media from artists living in the greater Philadelphia metropolitan area or within 50 miles of the Museum. Works will be selected in order to create a cohesive exhibition that explores themes and ideas that are current within the arts of Philadelphia.
About the Juror
As an institution that is devoted to Philadelphia’s art and artists, Woodmere is pleased to announce that Alex Kanevsky, an artist who lives, works, teaches, and exhibits in Philadelphia, will juror the exhibition. Born in Russia, Kanevsky came to America in 1983 and subsequently received his training at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where he is currently a member of the faculty.
Citing influences from twentieth-century painters such as Richard Diebenkorn, Lucian Freud, Rembrandt van Rijn, and Diego Velázquez, Kanevsky has created work that is decidedly of our time and simultaneously interwoven with the best of art history. He has recently exhibited in New York, San Francisco, Montreal, Washington, and Philadelphia.
