The Philadelphia Photo Arts Center is thrilled to announce that we are a recipient of a $35,000 challenge grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, as part of the Knight Arts Challenge. This highly competitive grant is one of the most prestigious any arts organization can receive.
This grant will support Philly Photo Day 2012, PPAC’s largest community event. This year, we’ll send teaching artists with digital cameras to local community centers, ensuring everyone who wants to participate has access to the project. In addition to the main exhibition in the Crane Arts Building, select Philly Photo Day images will be placed on Septa buses and trains, and even billboards. One of those images could be yours!
The Knight Arts Challenge is just that, a challenge. In order to receive the $35,000 grant, we need to match it dollar for dollar by raising an additional $35,000. We’re happy to report that the grant was just announced last night and we’re already almost a third of the way there! Thanks to early leadership gifts from six generous donors, PPAC has already raised $11,450 towards the match.
We are so excited about this grant and about Philly Photo Day 2012. For more information about this year’s event, taking place on October 26th, click here.
